THE ARTIST

LORENZO FERRERO
Lorenzo Ferrero is a Latin GRAMMY-winning saxophonist, composer, arranger and bandleader whose music tells a personal story. Through original compositions, arrangements and improvisation, he draws on the sounds he loves and the experiences that continue to shape his voice as an artist.
His work moves between intimate collaborations, the expressive range of The Collective and the larger canvas of the Afro-Peruvian Jazz Orchestra. Across these settings, performing and composing are connected ways of exploring melody, rhythm, emotion and the relationships that give music meaning.
Alongside his own projects, Lorenzo appears on Alex Acuña’s Gifts and creates music for media, including the Audio Network releases Right on Cue and Retratos de Norte y Sur.
FROM LIMA TO LOS ANGELES

Born in Lima, Peru, Lorenzo grew up surrounded by jazz and classical music, taking up the tenor saxophone at sixteen. That early curiosity led him to Berklee College of Music, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2013.
After Berklee, he moved to Vienna and joined The Snow Owl Quintet alongside bassist Juan García-Herreros, percussionist Roberto Quintero and pianist Héctor Martignon. During this period, he was commissioned to write music for the Vienna University of Technology’s bicentennial ball, premiered in January 2015.
Los Angeles became his home in 2016. His career there brings together live performance, recording and writing, including screen-music collaborations with composers Christopher Young, Thomas Chase Jones and Federico Jusid. He has shared stages with artists including Alex Acuña, Néstor Torres and Otmaro Ruiz.
With fellow Peruvian saxophonist Aníbal Seminario, Lorenzo co-founded and directs the Afro-Peruvian Jazz Orchestra. The ensemble connects Afro-Peruvian rhythmic traditions with the harmonic language, improvisation and instrumental colours of a jazz big band.
His arrangement of Chabuca Granda’s “La Flor de la Canela” received the 2020 Latin GRAMMY Award for Best Arrangement. APJO’s debut album, Tradiciones, also received a Latin GRAMMY nomination for Best Latin Jazz/Jazz Album and a 2021 GRAMMY nomination for Best Latin Jazz Album.
The Collective is Lorenzo’s main setting for expressing his journey as a performer and composer. Its original compositions and arrangements reflect the music he loves and the experiences that have shaped him, with each piece finding its own sound and emotional direction. His recorded work also includes the saxophone-and-guitar intimacy of Conversations with Miles Jensen, large-ensemble writing for Audio Network and appearances on Alex Acuña’s Gifts.
His Audio Network releases include Retratos de Norte y Sur and Right On Cue, the latter released to streaming platforms in May 2026 featuring The Collective. Away from the bandstand, his layered wind arrangements and scrolling-score videos offer another view of his work: melody, harmony and individual instrumental lines unfolding together.
As founder of ToneAlley Academy, Lorenzo connects his performing and writing practice with education. Through courses, books, the Improvisation Mastery Circle and private mentorship, he helps musicians develop their own musical language. His arranging work places particular emphasis on form, rhythm, voice leading and the movement of each individual part.
His upcoming project Voyage, planned for January 2027, brings his artistic voice into focus through the music he loves and the experiences that have shaped him. Each song reflects both a musical affinity and an important aspect of his life.
